My family has been involved in agriculture for a long time, but I only started with commercial production in 2004. At the time I planted 75 quince trees and in 2009 was able to start producing quince brandy. Because this kind of brandy is in high demand, with a high quality product I’m able to sell all production in a short period of time. When I heard about Business Center Zvecan (BCZ) I contacted them immediately to enquire about possible technical, advisory or financial support. Luckily, they had an ongoing programme running through which I was granted a greenhouse. With a greenhouse my production capacity expanded. I attended several trainings organized by BCZ where I gained practical skills in modern methods of fruit and vegetable production as well as coaching in marketing, management and market needs. After my training I was fully equipped to produce and sell tomatoes, cucumbers, paprika, lettuce, onions and potatoes which have proven to be very profitable. Due to the high demand for vegetables I purchased another greenhouse and was able to double my production last year. Fortunately I also received a drip irrigation system for my orchard from the BCZ/UNDP programme which reduced my workload and gave me the opportunity to expand production. At this rate I am optimistic for the future. Participating in the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (MFSII) at BCZ allowed me to meet a lot of relevant people and establish good business relations. I also gained invaluable skills and knowledge that I believe will carry my business far.
What is your personal ambition?
My personal ambition is to become a well known producer of vegetables and Quince brandy in the local market and to be able to deliver high quality products to my customers.
What impact do you see your business making?
My business impacts my community as local people are able to purchase domestic, high quality products at lower prices. At the moment I’ve employed 3 people but in the future, I hope to create more jobs.
How do you see the future of your business?
If I consider past production and sales and clients’ satisfaction, I see growth of my business and increase of sales in the future. My plan for the next 3 years is to double vegetable production by installing 2 additional greenhouses and Quince brandy production by planting 200 quince trees.
