Fatima Jaamane

Fatima Jaamane is a talented, young entrepreneur from Hodeida, Yemen. She follows in the footsteps of her Yemeni ancestors by using a traditional craft method from palm fronds to create stylish, modern products, such as bags and hats. “I love handicrafts and I want new generations to keep using traditional handicrafts” says Fatima. She is particularly keen creating products that are not only fashionable, but also promote recycling and environmental sustainability.

When Fatima first started out, she was creating simple brooms. The more she worked with the materials, the more she felt inspired to experiment with more intricate and elaborate designs. Her work became very popular and she established her handicraft business, Palm Fronds, in 2007. However, as the conflict situation in Yemen exacerbated, she found it extremely difficult to keep up with production costs as well as marketing and selling her products.

By enrolling in the ABC programme, Fatima received extensive training on the different ways she could use the raw materials found in the region. Moreover, she was able to use the ABC programme as a platform to secure sufficient grants and loans to expand her business further to support 3 employees and a professional website.

Her passion for this business led her to become an expert in her field, and she now provides technical support and mentorship to other entrepreneurs interested in starting up handicraft businesses. Fatima has trained over 150 entrepreneurs! 

Fatima hopes to connect with markets in the capital, Sanaa, and other governorates. However, she admits that “the war in Yemen makes everything more difficult”.

فاطمة الجعماني هي  رائدات أعمال يمنية موهبة من محافظة ألحديده. تسعى جاهدتن أن  تحافظ على الموروث الشعبي بتباعها لأسلافها في استمرارية إنتاج المصنوعات الحرفية من سعف النخيل بطريقه عصريه مثل الحقائب والقبعات حيث  تقول فاطمة ” إنها لا تحرص فقط  على الحفاظ على الموروث الشعبي وإنما تشجيع هذا النوع من الصناعات لماله من فوائد صحية باعتبار السعف صديق للبيئة.

في البداية كانت فاطمة تصنع المكانس العادية من سعف النخيل. مع استمرارها بالإنتاج  لاحظت تمكنها من صنع منتجات  بأشكال وتصاميم  متنوعة وعصريه. وأصبح عملها يحظى  بشعبية كبيرة، حيث أسست مشروعها  الخاص بإنتاج الحرف اليدوية من سعف النخيل، في عام 2007  برغم من  تفاقمحالة الصراع في اليمن، وقد أوضحت بأنها وجدت صعوبة بالغة في مواكبة تكاليف الإنتاج، فضلا عن تسويق وبيع منتجاتها.

من خلال التسجيل في برنامج خلق فرص أعمال زراعية  (ABC )، تلقت فاطمة التدريب المكثف على الطرق المناسبة التي تساعدها من  استخدم المواد الخام الموجودة في المنطقة. وقد اصبحت قادره الأن على   ادارة مشروعها الخاص وتسويق منتجاتها  وعلاوة على ذلك، قالت أنها اعتبرت  برنامج خلقفرص أعمال زراعية ( ABC)  كمنصة لتأمين المنح والقروض الكافية لتوسيع أعمالها التجارية أيضا أصبح لديها 3 موظفين.

شغفها لهذه الأعمال جعلها تصبح خبيرة في هذا المجال، حيث أنها تعمل مؤخراً على تقديم الدعم الفني والنصح والإرشاد لأصحاب المشاريع الأخرىالراغبين في بدء الأعمال اليدوية. حيث قامت فاطمة  بتدريب أكثر من  150رائد  أعمال

وتأمل فاطمة أن تصدر منتجاتها إلى  الأسواق في العاصمة صنعاء، والمحافظات الأخرى بل وتسعى أن تصدر منتجاتها إلى كل إنحاء العالم للتعريف بالموروث ألشعبيي اليمني، برغم من أنها تعرف بأن “الحرب في اليمن يجعل كل شيء أكثر صعوبة”.
