Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems (CDAIS)

What is CDAIS?

  • a 4-year project, funded by the EU, aimed to increase stakeholder engagement
  • is implemented in 8 countries (4 in Africa, 2 in Asia and 2 in Latin America) by a collaboration between Agrinatura, FAO and national institutions

In Rwanda, three niches were selected to be part of this project:

  • Cassava plant in the Ruhango District
  • Dairy plant in the Burera District
  • Rwangingo-Karangazi catchment in the Gatsibo District

SPARK Rwanda supported CDAIS programme in building National Innovation Facilitators (NIF) capacities in coaching, organising CDAIS project implementation, financial management of CDAIS funds and coordination of national agribusiness consultants contracted by NRI.

How does CDAIS help?

The main goal of CDAIS is to increase stakeholder engagement through:

  • Strengthening the capacity of agricultural systems for innovating, at community and national level
  • Building capacity of National Innovation Facilitators (NIFs) to support innovation systems in the future
  • Influencing national policy to promote systems for agricultural innovation
  • Specifically, development of ‘functional capacities’ to complement existing technical capacities or technical capacities being developed in partnership with other organisations
